Volunteer at Christ Church

We are looking for people to serve once a month for most of these positions, and it’s possible to be on more than one team. Your involvement makes a real difference and is a great way to fellowship with your church family.

Kids and Youth

Volunteers help once a month to lead our kids into a deeper relationship with Christ and the church through worship, community and outreach.
-Infant/Toddler Teachers lead a 10 min Circle Time with with Bible and songs and Infant/Toddler helpers play with our littlest ones.
-Preschool Teachers & Helpers lead kids in Bible stories, crafts, songs, and play.
-Kindergarten-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade teachers lead discussions on Bible stories and Gospel truths.
-Hallway Monitors keep kids safe and help teachers and parents as needed.
All CCKids volunteers must have attended Christ Church regularly for 6 months.
Commitment: Once a month during the worship service.
Current need: 1 for Hallway/Check in, 3 for Infants/Toddlers, 2 for Preschool, 3 for K-2nd grade, 4 for 3rd-5th grade

Mentors engage our youth and their faith through life-on-life discipleship. We impress upon them the value of belonging to Christ and his Church by sharing Biblical wisdom and giving Gospel-centered guidance that will help them meet the challenges of living as a Christian in the Bay Area.
Commitment: Two points of contact with mentee per month, one in person, the other can be done digitally. Must have attended Christ Church for 6 months.
Current need: 3 more volunteers

Sunday Operations

The Welcome Team creates an inviting environment for newcomers and returning members every Sunday. Before the service, we help prepare the sanctuary for worship and greet everyone who passes through the doors with liturgies and basic instructions for newcomers. During the service, we collect the offering of "first fruits" to the church’s mission. After the service, we linger over conversation with newcomers at the welcome table.
Commitment: Monthly, 30 minutes before the service (10:00 am) until the Passing of the Peace and 15+ minutes afterwards
Current need: 5 welcomers

The A/V team oversees and operates the livestream, cameras, audio mixer, and slides for Sunday worship, making it possible for people in our congregation and around the world to hear the gospel proclaimed.
Commitment: Generally once a month
Current need: 1-2 people

Members of this team glorify God through excellent and engaging music, ushering our congregation into God’s presence through singing as we join with the Church around the world and the saints and angels in heaven.

The Hospitality Team makes coffee hour happen on Sundays, the time after worship when new and long-time Christ Churchers can connect, find encouragement, and start new friendships. Our wonderful hospitality team members prepare coffee and bring refreshments (reimbursable by the church), set up, serve, and clean up. It’s a fun job to do with a buddy, so you can sign up with a friend or spouse, or we’ll be happy to find you a helper.
Commitment: Once every 4-6 weeks, 30 minutes before the service and 60 minutes after.
Current need: 2-4 people (1-2 pairs)

The Boiler Room Prayer Team meets in the Boiler Room (accessed via the door to the right immediately after the Walnut Street entrance) at 9:30 am on Sundays to pray through every aspect of Sunday morning and for God’s “kingdom to come and will to be done” in the East Bay. Commitment: Can range from weekly to monthly to “come when you can” — you are always welcome!
Current need: 6 people per week

The Scripture Reader is someone who not only enunciates the sermon text clearly and with appropriate expression, but also understands the gravity of reading the sermon text, because God is speaking through His Word.
Commitment: Quarterly (depending on size of team), with advance practice of the text, typically 20-30 minutes before Sunday (rehearsal is crucial), and arrival 30 minutes before the service.
Current need: Openings always available.

Communion Crew: God shows His hospitality to us and tangibly demonstrates the Gospel through the Lord’s Supper. Members of the Communion Crew set the table from which the congregation is invited to commune with God, one another, and the visible church around the world. The communion crew prepares the elements and cleans up after worship.
Current need: Two people for 5th Sundays and subbing.

The Safety Team members lend their eyes and ears to watch for and respond to potentially disruptive and/or harmful situations and/or individuals that may present themselves on Sunday mornings in order to minimize and address possible Sunday worship disturbances.
Commitment: Depending on volunteer’s availability, typically once a month, beginning at 10:15am to the end of service.
Current needs: None, but feel free to let us know of your interest and we'll get in touch when a need arises.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

The Facilities Team is an important team that helps keep the property, buildings, and facilities in excellent condition and operation.
Commitment: Volunteers are scheduled on an as-needed basis, and depending on a volunteer's availability.
Current needs: A few volunteers for special projects, regular projects (e.g., installing vinyl banners), and more.

The newly-formed Events Team is for people who'd like to work alongside Maria Francis to set up for our Fellowship Lunches, put on other church-wide events (Lessons & Carols reception, Easter coffee hour) or smaller gatherings like lunch for the Belonging Class. When an occasion arises, you'll be able to choose how you want to be involved. Please let us know if you have any particular event-related interests or talents (e.g. decorating, cooking).

The newly formed Tech Team functions as our in-house Genius Bar for pastors and staff as needs arise.
Commitment: Volunteers will be emailed as needs arise and can respond as they are able.
